Webster Launches New Web Site With Portal Technology and Leading-Edge Web Banking

Nov 01, 2000

WATERBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 2000--Webster Bank has taken the lead among Connecticut banks by offering an improved Web site that features a dynamic Web portal and several improvements to its Webster Web Banking offering.

The Web portal, called myWebster, is a content-rich site, and a unique destination that can be tailored to each visitor's wants and needs while simultaneously helping them achieve their financial goals.

myWebster at www.websterbank.com will make the bank's site a convenient "one-stop" for all customers' banking needs, as well as the latest news and information on finance, sports, entertainment, health, technology, travel and weather. In addition, robust search tools will be available, as well as opportunities for e-shopping at both Connecticut and national online merchants.

"With the addition of myWebster, www.websterbank.com is one of the most content rich sites offered by a bank today," said Jeffrey N. Brown, executive vice president. "The idea is to enhance the online banking experience by providing other commonly used services right on our site," said Brown, who also heads up the company's e-commerce activities.

Besides myWebster, the bank has also made other online improvements, including a completely redesigned Web site and enhancements to Webster Web Banking. The site provides customers with the highest level of security available, and uses the latest Web technology to make navigation easy and intuitive.

"As the Internet becomes integrated into every aspect of our lives, it becomes increasing attractive for our customers to do their banking online," said Fran Duggan, senior vice president, E-Business for Webster. "Besides the convenience of 'anytime, anywhere' banking, we are now providing all the best aspects of the Web for those who visit our site."

Webster's updated Web site will be powered by Combio, an Emeryville, California-based Internet company that focuses specifically on a variety of Internet-based information, commerce and communications services for financial institutions.

Webster's Web site can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection by visiting www.websterbank.com. Visitors can follow the link to myWebster. Webster has continued to improve its Web site since it first went online in October of 1998.

Connecticut-based Webster Bank provides business and consumer banking, mortgage, insurance, trust and investment services through more than 120 banking offices, 200 ATMs and the Internet (www.websterbank.com). Webster's online mortgage subsidiary at www.nowlending.com on the Worldwide Web originates low-cost mortgages across the United States.
