Webster Appoints Harriet Munrett Wolfe, Esq. to Executive Post

WATERBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 2, 2003--Webster Financial Corporation (NYSE: WBS), the holding company for Webster Bank, announced today the appointment of Harriet Munrett Wolfe, Esq. to the position of Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for both Webster Financial Corporation and Webster Bank.

Wolfe previously served as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary in both capacities.

Wolfe has been with Webster since March of 1997, joining initially as senior vice president and counsel. Prior to joining Webster, she held positions as vice president and senior counsel for Shawmut National Corporation and associate legal counsel and assistant secretary for Citytrust Bancorp, Inc..

Wolfe is a member of the Connecticut Bar, the Connecticut Bar Association, American Bar Association and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries.

Wolfe received a B.A. from the University of Connecticut and a Juris Doctor from Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California.

She resides in Guilford, CT.
