Webster Bank Appoints Kevin E. Flaherty SVP, Commercial Banking, Middle Market North

WATERBURY, Conn., February 16, 2010 – Webster Bank, the main subsidiary of Webster Financial Corporation (NYSE: WBS), announced that Kevin E. Flaherty has joined the company as senior vice president, commercial banking, middle market north, based in Hartford.

In his position, Flaherty is responsible for the development of new commercial business in northern Connecticut and western Massachusetts.

Flaherty joins Webster from Sovereign Bank, where he most recently served as market president, Connecticut and western Massachusetts. Flaherty has more than 30 years experience in Connecticut and western Massachusetts markets and previously served as senior vice president and director of BankBoston and as vice president for State Street Bank.

Flaherty earned a bachelor of arts (magna cum laude) and MBA from the University of Connecticut. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Connecticut Children’s Hospital Medical Center Foundation, the United Way of Central Connecticut and the Connecticut Children’s Fund.  He has previously held leadership positions with the MetroHartford Alliance, the Economic Development Council and the Urban League.
