Webster Bank Appoints Peter Mosbacher SVP, Community Development

WATERBURY, Conn., February 16, 2010 – Webster Bank, the main subsidiary of Webster Financial Corporation (NYSE: WBS), announced that Peter Mosbacher has joined the company as senior vice president of community development.

In his position, Mosbacher will focus on creating strategic partnerships with developers, government agencies and non-profit community-based organizations involved with affordable housing and economic development across the bank’s four state footprint extending from Boston to Westchester County, New York. Mosbacher will also be available to provide technical assistance to communities and non-profits engaged in community revitalization efforts.

Mosbacher has 30 years of professional community development experience in both the non-profit and banking sectors. He joins Webster from Amalgamated Bank in New York City, where he most recently served as senior vice president for Community Reinvestment Act & Community Development. Prior to Amalgamated Bank, Mosbacher held similar positions at The Bank of New York and Citibank.

Mosbacher earned a BA in Environmental Design and Planning from SUNY-Buffalo and has a Certificate in Real Estate Finance from New York University. He serves on numerous boards and committees including the Connecticut Statewide Local Initiatives Support Corporation Local Advisory Committee and the Connecticut Community Economic Development Fund.
