Webster Bank branch manager selected for 2011 Hartford Business Journal "40 Under Forty Awards"

Jul 25, 2011

HARTFORD, Conn., July 25, 2011 — Webster Bank's CityPlace branch manager was among those honored today by the 2011 Hartford Business Journal “40 Under Forty Awards,” which shine the spotlight on the most promising young executives in greater Hartford.

Richard M. Deenihan, Jr., 30, began his career at Webster Bank as a teller in May 2000 at the age of 19 while he was a student at Quinnipiac University. Over the subsequent 11 years, he was consistently promoted to positions of greater responsibility and was hired into his current position leading Webster's flagship Hartford branch in CityPlace in January 2009 at the age of 28.

The Hartford Business Journal's “40 Under Forty Awards” recognize “outstanding young professionals in the greater Hartford area who are excelling in their industries through their leadership roles. They are driven by success, motivated by challenges and are role models for their peers. …They share a passion for what they do, a willingness to expend the time and energy it takes to be the best, a zest for life and an appreciation for seeking a balance in their lives. They also share an uncommon commitment to giving back to their communities. And they all understand that connections make our community work.”

Described as “unflappable” by colleagues, Deenihan is one of the top sales managers in Webster's retail network, increasing the CityPlace branch's year-over-year deposit revenue growth by more than 8 percent in 2010. He also helped his branch to more than double its small business lending production from 2009 to 2010 at a time when many banks were seeing that lending production drop.

Deenihan, a Suffield resident, is the fourth Webster employee to be honored with a “40 Under 40” award this year, demonstrating Webster's commitment to hiring and promoting the best and the brightest within the banking industry.

The others include: Adam McLaughlin, 32, relationship manager with Webster Bank's middle market unit in downtown Hartford, who was named in March as one of the “40 Under 40” next generation of leaders by Connecticut magazine; Maria Freburg, 38, Webster Bank vice president and its Westchester County, N.Y., market manager, who was among those selected last month for The Business Council of Westchester's 2011 “Rising Stars – 40 Under 40 Awards;” and Brian Reklaitis, 31, a Webster Bank branch manager in Danbury, Conn., who was among those selected last month for the Fairfield County (Conn.) Business Journal 's 2011 “40Under40 Awards.”
