Webster Bank Sponsors Medieval to Monet Exhibit at Wadsworth Atheneum

Oct 17, 2012

WATERBURY, Conn., October 17, 2012 – Webster Bank, a leading regional bank serving businesses and consumers from Westchester County, N.Y. to Boston, Mass., is pleased to sponsor the newest exhibit at America’s oldest public museum - Medieval to Monet:  French Paintings in the Wadsworth Atheneum. Works by Claude, Boucher, Ingres, Delacroix, Monet, Renoir, and Gauguin will be featured from October 19, 2012 through January 27, 2013 at the Hartford, Conn., landmark, located at 600 Main Street.

“Webster is pleased to help showcase these exceptional French paintings, together for the first time,” said Bob Annon, regional president for northern Connecticut and Springfield, Mass., for Webster Bank.  “It is a unique opportunity to view 700 years of French painting and once again demonstrates how Hartford is a cultural hub and how the Arts are an economic driver for the city, region, and state.”

“Ranging from Baroque masterpieces by Poussin and Claude to famous Impressionist works by Renoir and Monet, the paintings in Medieval to Monet offer a lens through which to view the historic changes in French culture between the thirteenth and twentieth centuries,” said Susan L. Talbott, Director & CEO of the Wadsworth Atheneum. “Highlighting the Wadsworth’s extraordinary holdings of French paintings, this exhibition presents a unique opportunity to trace the development of one of the country’s great collections.”

The exhibition is accompanied by an extensive catalogue; public programs including lectures from some of the world’s foremost authorities on Impressionism and French painting; as well as gallery talks and tours.  Webster is pleased to provide continued support to the Wadsworth; the bank sponsored Monet’s Water Lilies: An Artist’s Obsession in 2011.
